Record of Decisions
A NEPA Record of Decision (ROD) is a document that summarizes the decision-making process and the selected course of action for a proposed federal action that has been subject to review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The ROD documents the decision-making process, the alternatives considered, the environmental impacts evaluated and the mitigation measures that have been implemented to minimize impacts.
The ROD is typically prepared after the completion of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) or an Environmental Assessment (EA) and it is issued by the lead federal agency responsible for the proposed action. It is a public document and must be made available for public review.
The main goal of a ROD is to provide a clear and concise summary of the decision-making process and the selected course of action for a proposed federal action, including the alternatives considered, the environmental impacts evaluated, and the mitigation measures that have been implemented to minimize impacts.
The ROD is an important tool for providing transparency and information to the public and decision-makers about the decision-making process and the selected course of action for a proposed federal action. It also helps to ensure that the environmental impacts of a proposed action have been fully evaluated and that mitigation measures have been implemented to minimize impacts.
